Two Awadhi miniature paintings on ivory at the National Museum, New Delhi

You’re familiar with the kingdom of Oudh, of course, from Satyajit Ray’s Chessplayers, if nothing else. The fellow featured here is the film hero’s Pa. The two miniatures (with apologies for the poor resolution of Awadhi 1 below) are about 5 inches across. Which means that the photo above, as it appears on this page, is about TWICE — nearly three times, in fact — the original size (i.e. scale of 2+:1).
